Check with the secondary department to find out what their specific requirements are for a major or minor in that program. Once you have taken 1 or 2 classes in that department and have decided that you want to pursue the major or minor, meet with an advisor in that department and complete the Major/Minor Declaration Form. Then, make an appointment with your
Academic Advisor to complete the declaration process. They will be able to sign your Declaration Form.
Minor
- Typically, 16 credits ( 4 courses)
- With careful planning, these courses could double count towards your General Education (Liberal Arts) requirement. For example, if you minor in Anthropology, 2 classes could double count towards your Science requirement while the other 2 classes could count towards your Balance of Liberal Arts Requirement.
Double Major
- Typically, 32-40 credits (8 or more courses)
- There are specific courses that you must take n different areas within your secondary department. Please note that completing a double major will require you to reserve Elective credits for some of these academic courses. With careful planning, you will not need to spend extra time or money on a double major.
